Backstory
Kennedy began studying the mystic arts at Kamar-Taj as a young teen and excelled at it, quickly becoming an apprentice. She was an eager student, and found herself staying in the library most nights in an attempt to learn everything she could.Years later, as she neared adulthood, she still aimed to learn everything she could, despite limitations that had been put forward for the safety of students of the mystic arts. Her late night library stays became her sneaking in to read books restricted to those of higher status - also going as far as reading the forbidden ones. She unknowingly started dealing with dark magic, but even once she realized what is was, she didn’t stop as she began to believe it wouldn’t cause any problems - believing it would only bring more knowledge and power. It wasn’t until she made a mistake and hurt another student (and herself) that she truly realized what she was doing was wrong and that she was slowly becoming corrupted by the books. So, she cleaned up the mess she made, making sure nobody knew what she had done, and left Kamar-Taj suddenly with no explanation to anyone.Kennedy stopped using magic all together, healing herself from her mistakes. She enrolled at NYU, telling herself that she would never use magic again and therefore had to come up with a new career path. She studied nursing, deciding that she wanted to spend her life helping people and feeling like she was doing something good. Much like her studies at Kamar-Taj, she excels academically. During this time, she never returned to Nepal or visited the New York Sanctum. However, as she neared graduation, she impulsively decided to visit the Sanctum. Once there, she stumbled across a few books she had remembered from before her corruption, deciding to take them and try her hand at the mystic arts again. While it took a bit for her memory of the arts to fully come back, she was able to become a skilled sorcerer once again.Five years after running away, Kennedy returned to Kamar-Taj believing she was going to come clean about what she had done to fully forgive herself and heal. Instead, she continued to lie about why she left, claiming she had always wanted to attend a university and have a “normal” job. To her knowledge, nobody except her knows the truth.Currently, she works part time in a New York hospital as a nurse (depending on plot, she may still be in school) while also teaching a novice class on meditation at Kamar-Taj a few times a week.
